Merel van Engelen

Being an artist, I find it important to know in which ways my art influences the lives of people and how my art contributes to the welfare and development of mankind. I see my place as an artist as a small part of the whole of human activities. The meaning of art is a sociological process and constantly changes. Therefore I think that the meaning of my work can be different know compared to the future. Nevertheless I hope that the core message remains the same for now and later. What I try to accomplish with my work is to provide an art-experience which make someone conscious about the aesthetics in his or her environment. My work should make the spectator aware of its own position relative to its surrounding. I’ll try to show the beauty of mankind and nature through my art. The endlessness of colours, the riches of structures and the power of the rhythm of the environment. This results in an interaction between the spectator and it’s environment and fellowman.
